Las Coumeilles stands on the mountainside in Leychert, a village looking south in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Ariege with outstanding views of the Pyrenees. Leychert lies between Lavelanet and the departmental town of Foix with its fairy-tale castle dating back to 1000 AD. Las Coumeilles is built in traditional style and Maison Pujon is a lovely village house and both have shared access to our private heated swimming pool and tennis court. |

From the house you can see the Chateau de Montsegur and from the gardens you can see the Chateau de Roquefixade which lies in the next village. There are many small villages to explore and all around are magnificent views.The valley is one of the sunniest in the Ariege. |

Le Sentier Cathar, the famous pathway of the Cathars, winds its way up the mountain behind the house. This pathway starts in Foix and leads to Narbonne, 250 km of beautiful walking trails. Many walks can be taken directly from the house and the views over the valley are magnificent. |

Leychert itself is a small village with no shops but facilities nearby are excellent with the nearest large supermarket a 15 minute drive away and small shops in a local village 10 minutes away. Lavelanet is 11 km distant and Foix 12 km. There is a wide selection of restaurants, bars and cafes around at varying prices from the simple pizza to fine dining. |

The nearest ski resort Les Monts D’Olmes (www.lespaysdolmes.org), is 25 minutes away by car and is an ideal place for learning to ski. There are 15 pistes of varying difficulty and being a “local resort”, ski passes are much cheaper than most ski areas. For the more adventurous, Aix-les-Thermes has many more pistes and there are areas for ski-boarding, langlauf and rackets. |
